Cave Stream Reserve in Narnia, NZ
Explore Narnia in the Southern Alps of New Zealand

Accommodation 2 mins from Cave Stream Reserve
We are 2kms from Cave Stream Reserve. Cave Stream passes through a natural limestone cave which is can be walked in summer when the river flow is minimal. It also has spectacular lime stone outcrops and was the film location for the battle scenes in Narnia's "The Lion, The Witch & The Wardrobe", an Andrew Adamson film.

Two minutes to Narnia Film Location
The filming locations of Canterbury are spectacularly captured in the new movie The Chronicles of Narnia:"The Lion, the Witch and the Wardrobe" from Disney and Walden Media. Christchurch's Film South were instrumental in finding this amazing film location. To get more information about Narnia and the making of the film check out Disney's "The Chronicles of Narnia" page.

Going through Cave Stream
For safetys sake the cave is walked up stream against the water current. You will need warm gear and everyone needs a good torch (preferably a headlamp as there is a bit of scrambling to be done inside the cave). You will be walking in up to waist height water for for at least 3/4 hour. People have died in there so don't take the precautions too lightly. Read the DoC notice about water height. If it is over your waist when you enter then you will not be able to get out at the other end. There is a rope ladder to get out at the other end so a reasonable amount of agility is required.

Do not enter if the water is above your waist at the first bend or the water is discoloured or foaming! Do not go through in the winter.

See the Department of Conservation - Cave Stream Reserve website for information. You can purchase a route guide from them.

Bouldering at Cave Stream/ Flock Hill
There is great bouldering and rock climbing at Cave Stream. Check out the bouldering page for more information and where to find guide books. You will need to ring for permission to walk or climb anywhere outside of the DoC reserve.

Flock Hill Station
Most of the limestone outcrops you can see up on the hill from the carpark are on Flock Hill Station and are private land. You will need to ring for permission to walk or climb there..
