Bouldering & rock climbing accommodation
Avoca House New Zealand B&B is ideally situated for your rock-climbing and bouldering accommodation when climbing at Castle Hill Kura Tawhiti (Quantum Field, Spittle Hill & Dark Castle), Flock Hill or Cave Stream Reserve. Some say it is the best bouldering on the planet!
Castle Hill limestone boulder fields The Castle Hill and Cave Stream Rocks are fields of limestone boulders in all shapes and sizes with loads of slopers and minimal friction. With the quality and volume of rock available, its amazing alpine views and year round climbing, it's easy to see why so many people travel so far to climb here.
Kura Tawhiti Reserve (Castle Hill Rocks) has a number of boulder fields. In Spittle Hill, Quantum Field and Dark Castle there are over 4000 problems alone. Flock Hill and Dry Valley are two larger adjacent areas (permission for access is required). Public access to Gorge Hill and Prebble Hill is in the pipeline.
Check out this article from the Canberra Climbers Association newsletter, March 2005, p14, "Bouldering at the Energy Centre of the Universe".
Crash pad available Make use of the Avoca House crash pad. It is free for B&B guests. If not in use by guests it can be hired for a daily charge.
